M. Korosty is known for his series of street musicians. The barrel organ is an old companion of street musicians throughout the Old World, it is also very popular among performers of Latin America. The image of a performer, the repetitive melody, an accompanying parrot - all were suggested by the scenes encountered by the artist on the last visit to South France.
Note the “mini” landscape inside of the barrel organ. The action, movement and coincidences that occur in this image are common to the approach that the artist takes throughout the images of daily objects. In his words, images incorporate animated nature, such as animals, people, and stars - they are full of motion and are capturing particular situations. Thus, something of a new genre is developed here - “situations” - landscape, portraiture, still-life and story telling is incorporated into one situation.
This image was created in the style of stained glass, an innovative approach to stain glass imagery, developed by Michael Korosty and his Art & Design Studios, in NYC.
